Where Did England Go Wrong Against France?

by Jeremy Monkhouse

Where did England go wrong on Wednesday against France? I am, of course, talking about the football match (or â• • soccer gameâ• • for you Americans) that took place last week at Wembley stadium in London.

Although the score was 2-1 to France, in truth it could have been far more than that. England were shown up for what they are â• • a team lacking in basic footballing technique (when compared to the other major footballing countries, anyway) and ideas. France started off by passing the ball around in a fluid and easy-on-the-eye fashion, whereas England played the ball around between their defenders before hoofing the ball up to an isolated Andy Carroll up front.

So what went wrong? Fabio Capello (the England manager) was trying out a few new youth players, so you might be forgiven for using this as an excuse for a bad performance, but in truth it was not the youth that were the problem â• • it was the older, more experienced players that yet again did not perform.

Gareth Barry will be the victim of much of the abuse after this game, and rightly so. He simply offered nothing at all in midfield. For a player that canâ• • t pass or tackle and doesnâ• • t run, it seems as if his England future might be in question.

Secondly, although Jordan Henderson (one of the young players introduced in the friendly) does look a fantastic prospect (his Sunderland form will tell you that), he was fairly poor against France. Some leeway must obviously be given, since he is only 20 and this was his first ever England cap. Henderson looked understandably nervous in front of the 80,000 strong crowd, but calmed down as the game went on.

Despite all of this, we must remember that this was just a friendly, and that we shouldnâ• • t get carried away like many people have been.

Roger Hunt - Liverpool FC Legend

by Steve Goodwin

Roger Hunt was born in 1938 and became one of the most legendary footballers ever to play for Liverpool. Hunt played for Stockton Heath, Bury and Devizes Town, before signing for Liverpool in 1958 and he went on to make 492 appearances and score 286 goals for Liverpool.

Hunt was signed by Liverpool manager Phil Taylor when they were mid-table second division side, but he still managed to impress. When Bill Shankly became manager, Roger Hunt survived a large player exodus and became instrumental in the Liverpool side that returned to winning ways and top division football.

After narrowly missing out on promotion for several consecutive seasons, Roger Hunt played a major role in helping Liverpool win promotion during the 1961-62 season, he played in 41 of the 42 league games and scored 41 goals that season, as Liverpool won the second division title.

Hunt formed a formidable strike partnership with Ian St John as Liverpool returned to the first division, and he went on to become Liverpool's top goal scorer for eight seasons running, this included Liverpool's title winning season of 1963-64 and in 1965-66. Hunt also scored the opening goal as Liverpool won the FA Cup in 1965 against Leeds United.

Roger Hunt was not only renowned for his goal scoring exploits, but also his team play and work ethic, which were second to none. Hunt became Liverpool's all time leading goal scorer, a record that was eventually overtaken by Ian Rush, but Hunt remains the highest scorer of league goals for Liverpool even today.

Roger Hunt also had a distinguished international football career for England, and was part of the World Cup winning team in 1966, he played in all of England's six games in the tournament and scored three goals, as England went on to win the trophy for the first and only time; he is often referred to as "Sir" Roger Hunt by the Liverpool fans in recognition of a knighthood they believe he deserved.

In 1969 and aging Roger Hunt was allowed to leave Liverpool as Bill Shankly began to re-build his team, and Hunt joined Bolton Wanderers. Many fans believe if it wasn't for Hunts great ability, Liverpool would never have achieved the success they have, which makes him a true Liverpool legend.

Rooney Can Leave Old Trafford With Just 5 Million Pounds

According to FIFA's transfer regulations, Wayne Rooney may unilaterally terminate the contract with Manchester United next summer and if that happened, the Old Trafford club can only get 5 million pounds from the money directing all its resources, Independent reveal.

According to Webster's rule - get the name of Andy Webster, who has created a precedent for this action - Rooney can be purchase last year of the contract with United for £ 5 million (in annual salary of Wazza) plus a small amount of compensation.

Rules outlined in the paragraph 17 of the FIFA transfer rules and may cause the value of the Rooney transfer (estimated at 45 million pounds) down extremely fast.

Rooney’s conditions to satisfy the law of Webster has been endorsed by a Spanish lawyer, Huerta Ruiz y Crespo, who was always present in cases related to paragraph 17 of FIFA as of this moment. Crespo affirmed, relying on the law, Rooney can completely leave United.

Shrek the last time he extended his contract with United was in November 2006 when Rooney agreed to stay at Old Trafford next summer in 2012. According to Paragraph 17 of the FIFA, a player can unilaterally terminate the contract when made enough "security phase." "Security period" is defined according to age, and with a player under 28 years old - like Rooney - the guarantee period will be 3 years.

Wazza is just 24 years old and in November 2006 when the last contract extension with Man Utd, means that Rooney had done "to ensure the time" in November 2009. Rooney could have gone away last summer by acquiring two years of salary and can do something similar next summer with a year salary. Webster Law can only be done in the summer (not in the winter transfer period), the Manchester United Rooney still have a chance to sell if the price is acceptable to the Reds striker out of his key away this winter.

Serbian Fans Were Hired to Cause Violence

Currently, UEFA and the security forces of Italy are rushing to make investigation on the disturbing conclusion of the Serbian fans caused the game between two teams in Genoa, Italy and Serbia forced to postpone ensure safety for the players.

Both countries would like to know the cause of violence mentioned above. Thereby to make appropriate decisions about the fate of the match. If the Serbian Football Association does not prove that the incident was unforeseen, they will be dealt losing 0-3.

If the Serbs are not fault, most likely a match will be held in the appropriate time. Serbian Football Federation was very hopeful in this information that security agencies of Europe and Italy have announced it seems that more and more trust Serbia.

Accordingly, a group of Serbian supporters may have been ordered by secret of a terrorist organization. It found that in some accounts of the most aggressive Hooligan that day was "pumped" money by surprise. A total up to 200 thousand Euros. Therefore, the work now seems to have been beyond the scope of pure football.

The Two Main Reasons about Serbia's Fans Around the Disorder

The most important reason is the recent Serbian Football Federation, namely the president abruptly dismissed Karadzic strategist aging Radomir Antic. In FIFA event, he was sent off four direct international matches for steering behavior plated at the 2010 World Cup referee. In the the last few years, Antic has done a lot of work for the national team, he is also very vocal character in football weights are largely NHM Serbia and love, though Serbia had failed in World Cup 2010. The appointment replaces coach Petrović Antic has caused strong protests from the fans, especially after the events of Serbia opponents were crushed pepper Estonia 3-1 in their home last Friday. The fans also upset because Football Federation Serbia coach Antic being isolated when making 2 million euros to claim compensation contracts.

The second factor is understood through the goalkeeper Stojkovic service attack, the unexpected behavior was cause by Serbian's fans. More specifically, he growing by wearing Red Star Belgrade and even last June, he became an honorary member of the club. But this season, he has suddenly joined Partizan Belgrade on loan from Sporting Lisbon, while between Partizan and Red Star has always featured rivalry between the big teams and cities. This is the main reason the Red Star fans felt betrayed, and Serbia to Italy is a occasion to flexing him.

Rooney: " I feel more sharp"

Since the sex scandal with prostitutes was uncovered so far, Rooney is still quite muted and off the pitch. He has also been criticized after missing two good chances to eat do not make the England team goals before the Montenegro Republic. However, "he Shrek" said he still felt satisfied with his performance.

Rooney can not fire a second time for Manchester United after goals from penalties in the net of Westham. And even wearing the national team, he has yet to see this level of revival after a missed two good opportunities do not eat that England scored first Republic Montenegro. This is the first time since 2007, England did not score any goals at Wembley.

Although under a lot of pressure from the media capital "abrasion" as Ferguson once said of his master, Rooney has expressed satisfaction about his performance and said he felt the day the killer instinct gradually return: "I felt myself becoming more sharp. There are two opportunities have been created, with the first opportunity I should have done better, and in second chances, the keeper you've played too good. I trained in husbandry during the past two months, I completed every exercise, so no problems with my health at all. "

This weekend, Manchester United will just have to "dwarf" Wes Brom and this is an opportunity for Rooney to wake killer instinct has been asleep since March this year. Hopefully, the family has overcome storms, R10 will continue to be scary as the style of last season to help the "red devil" dispel doubts after the series won the Air achievements past guests. They say the new housing is an industry that lost.

The Rugby World Cup is the premier international rugby union competition. The event is organized by the sport governing body, the International Rugby Board (IRB), and is contested by the men's national teams. The inaugural tournament was held in 1987, hosted by both Australia and New Zealand, and is now contested every four years. The tournament is one of the largest international sporting competitions in the world. An upset victory over the hosts France in the first game of the 2007 World Cup, took Argentina to fourth in the IRB World Rankings. The team were undefeated in their pool, and reached the semi-finals for the first time, beating Scotland 19-13 in their quarter-final. Despite being beaten 37-13 by South Africa in the semi-finals, they defeated France for a second time in the tournament to claim third place overall. In March 2008 the team reached an all-time high of third in the IRB World Rankings. As of 23 March 2009 Argentina is ranked fifth in the world behind Australia, South Africa, New Zealand and Ireland. But now have slipped to 8th place as of 2 August 2010. Through solid advances in competitiveness and performance during the 2000s, Argentina will begin playing in a new expanded Tri-Nations (Four Nations) tournament starting in 2012. Argentina is expected to be an underdog performer in the tournament for the first year or two, but will quickly improve over time with regular experience playing the worlds most elite teams. The national teams personal goals for the early 2010s is to achieve their first victories over the All Blacks and Springboks.

After Marcelo Loffreda left following the 2007 Rugby World Cup to take up the head coaching job at Guinness Premiership club Leicester Tigers, the UAR spent nearly five months searching for a successor until opting for a two-coach setup, with former Pumas Santiago Phelan and Fabián Turnes taking over. The Pumas' current captain is Felipe Contepomi.

The history of the team extends back to 1872 when the English rugby team played their first official Test match, losing to Scotland by one try. England dominated the early Home Nations Championship (now the Six Nations) which started in 1883. Following the schism of rugby football in 1895, England did not win the Championship again until 1910. England first played against New Zealand in 1905, South Africa in 1906, and Australia in 1909. England was one of the teams invited to take part in the inaugural Rugby World Cup in 1987 and went on to appear in the final in the second cup in 1991 only to be defeated by Australia. Following their 2003 Six Nations Grand Slam, England won that year's World Cup - beating Australia 20-17 in extra time. They also contested the final in 2007 but finished as runners up, losing 15-6 to South Africa.

England players traditionally wear white shorts, navy socks (although they are now white and red) with white tops, and a white shirt with a red rose embroidered on it, and for the first time in the English rugby team's history, their away shirt is red (up until recently, navy blue has been the traditional colour). Their home ground is Twickenham Stadium where they first played in 1910. The team is administered by the Rugby Football Union (RFU). Four former players have been inducted into the International Rugby Hall of Fame.

English Premier League- Chelsea defeats Arsenal and leads the Championship

by Stephen Lars

Chelsea FC completed a nice comeback from last week's 1-0 defeat against Manchester City, with a 2-0 win against Arsenal to regain the great rhythm the team had enjoyed in the beginning of the 2010-2011 English Premiere League Season.

The two favorite teams to win the championship had an exciting duel in the Stamford Bridge Stadium.

Arsenal took possession of the ball early in the game and was able to get keeper Petr Cech in some trouble, but the team was far from really getting anywhere close to a goal against Chelsea.

Chelsea didn't wait too long to react to their opponents attacks. With a solid defense as a foundation, the team was able to bring up their lines and attack on Arsenal's defense.

The match was quite exciting. Both teams attacked and defended in a very balanced manner during the first 30 minutes of play. Amid all this action, Chelsea had many chances to score. Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka were responsible for creating scoring threats, however, the lack of precision of these two strikers kept them from actually scoring.

Arsenal aimed its plays through midfielder Andrei Arshavin, to try to score from the open spaces in the opposing defense.

Towards the end of the first half, Chelsea were able to take control of the match. After 39 minutes, Drogba made an excellent score after overtaking goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski. Arsenal then tried to even the score, but the home defense was much more efficient. With the score 1-0 in favor of Chelsea, the first half came to an end.

The start of the second half was crucial to Chelsea's domination. With a strong defense the English champions prevented Arsenal from reacting to their attacks.

Arsene Wenger, Arsenal coach, tried to turn around the situation by replacing a tired Abou Diaby and Tomas Rosicky. Wenger's plan seemed not to result, as the pace of play of his team declined and was only effective in sporadic occasions.

Arsenal continued to look unsuccessfully. Chelsea took advantage of the confusion of to overcome Arsenal easily and enter its area. After a nice play on the flank the Blues increased the score 2-0 after 85 minutes of play via Brazilian defender Alex.

With this win, Chelsea FC has gained three points more and has become the leader of the English Premier League with 18 points. Second is the Manchester City (14pts) after the 2-1 win against Newcastle. Manchester United is in third place (13pts).

With a record of 6 wins and 1 defeat, Chelsea has become a strong rival for Arsenal, the current champion. Arsenal currently ranks fourth in the Premier League with 11 points. The team has stayed focused and as of press time, they are having a good season both in the English Premiere League as well as in the Champions League.

It would now be a matter of time to see what is going to happen in one of the finest, and most diverse leagues in the world.

UEFA Champions League - Destination Wembley

by Andrew Hill

With the draw finished, Europe now knows how the eight groups will be composed and rubs its hands with the excitement that games like: Milan- Real Madrid, Bayern-Roma, or Manchester United-Valencia produce.

Year after year it just keeps getting better; and with the draw complete we just can't find reasons to believe that this year will be the exception. The UEFA Champions has gathered its 32 contenders in 8 eight groups of 4 teams each, and is now impatiently awaiting for the kick-off this coming month, on Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th. For the 56th edition of the tournament, the city of London will have the honor to host the final that will be played on May 28th, 2011, at Wembley Stadium with the presence of 90,000 fortunate spectators.

The defending champions, Inter, will fight for one of the two tickets in group A that lead to the knock out phase against Werder Bremen, Tottenham and Twente. The coach who guided them to win the trophy, Jose Mourinho, is no longer with them, but this doesn't make them less dangerous, since they have hired former Liverpools's coach Rafael Benitez, who also knows how to guide a team to a final. Benitez won the competition in 2005 with Liverpool and lost the 2007 final to Milan.

In group B we have Olympique Lyonnais, Benfica, Schalke 04, and Hapoel Tel-Aviv. Last year Olympique knocked down Real Madrid, and for this year's edition they have made a strong investment of 22 million Euros to sign midfielder Yohann Gourcuff, actions that show that they are not in the competition to simply be part of this magnificent event, but with the intention of improving past performances. Schalke 04 will have the attraction of their sticker Raul, who will play his first season with a team that is not Real Madrid. By the way, he has scored 66 goals in European competitions. The Spaniard is called to lead the team with his experience.

Manchester United, Valencia, Rangers and Bursaspor make up group C, where the English depart as clear favorites to end up in first place. The Spanish team has lost two of their best players: David Villa to Barcelona, and David Silva to Manchester City, but are confident in what Soldado and Mata can do. They will probably define the winner of the second ticket to the next round against Rangers, as on the paper Bursaspor is the weakest team, but previous competitions have shown that you just can't take anything for granted.

Group D has Barcelona, one of the favorites to win the competition, and will face Panatinaikos, Copenhague, and Rubin Kazan. The Spanish champions made an oath to their fans putting all their effort to make it to the final, after that painful defeat in the semifinal against Inter last season. This year they will count with the assistance of David Villa, who arrived to Barcelona in exchange of 42 million Euros with Valencia.

Last edition's runner-up, Bayer Munich, where really close to finish this past season with a treble, but Inter got in between and defeated them 2 to 0 in the final. The squad commanded by Louis van Gaal will be one of the toughest teams to defeat, this means that Roma, Basilea and Clucj will have an interesting dispute for the second place in group E.

With the same authority that Chelsea commands the Premier League, it is expected that they easily advance to the next round, without finding much resistance in Olympique de Marseille, Spartak and MSK Zilina, teams that complete group F.

Two of Europe's greatest clubs will clash for the second year in row: Milan and Real Madrid, making group G one of the most appealing to watch. With 7 and 9 Champions League titles respectively, the show is guaranteed. Ajax and Auxerre complete the group. The fans from the Amsterdam squad will enjoy again of this competition after five years of absence.

Last but not least we have group H, with the surprise of Sporting Braga, responsible of eliminating Sevilla in the playoff round. Arsenal, Shakhtar and Partizan complete the group. The English team recently gave the fans the good news involving their captain: despite the interest shown by Barcelona, Cesc will lead the team throughout this season.

"These are the champions, die meister, die besten, les meilleurs équipes!"

4 Easy Steps to Kick the Soccer Ball Harder

by Mario Cobian

Kicking the Soccer Ball Harder with these 4 easy steps: 1

Use a different part of your foot.Depending on what part of your foot you are using, another section might be better off for kicking the ball harder. The inside of your foot is really not meant for power. This part of your foot is great for passing, and even penalty kicks, but not for kicking the ball particularly hard. You will be very accurate with it, but have little power. The best part of your foot to use to kick with some real power is the laces. This refers to the part of your soccer cleat where the laces are, or the top of your foot.Using this part of your foot will allow you to use your body full power and torque and explode through the ball, which is what will generate the power. 2

Address the ball better.Kicking harder is more than just swinging your leg faster. One thing that can improve your power output is how you address the ball. This refers to the way your body approaches the ball as you go to kick it. If you are stepping too close to the ball, it will be very difficult to kick with power. Same is true if you are backing too far away. Make sure your planting foot is right where it should be, at a nice, appropriate distance from the ball based on your angle of entry. You also need to use your hips. Just like in baseball, the amount of torque your body creates will directly reflect how hard you kick the ball. And the torque comes from your hips. So rotate them quickly through the ball like swinging a bat. 3

Strengthen your kicking leg.A strong leg is absolutely necessary in order to kick with power. So strengthen your leg.Get into the gym and work on the muscles in your legs. You'll need to strengthen all of them, including your quadriceps, calf muscle, hamstring and even your ankles.Get on the leg press, the hamstring curl, the calf raise, etc. Work on your legs to increase their strength. 4 Practice, practice, practice. While you might do all of these things listed, and do them correctly, none of it will help you much unless you go out and practice and kick the soccer ball a lot. The only way to really get better is to kick more and more.Get outside and start kicking the ball. Practice kicking it as hard as you can. Practice your goal kicks or penalty kicks with a friend. Just kick it as far as you can time and time again. After a matter of only weeks, you should notice a difference in the way you are striking the ball.

Liverpool to lose Benitez, Torres and Gerrard?

by Giorgio Pirelli

Once again Liverpool are hitting the headlines for all the wrong reasons with further speculation that star players Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard are set to leave the club along with manager, Rafa Benitez. On the back of Liverpool's consecutive 1-0 defeats to Wigan and Lille, and Real Madrid's elimination from the Europe, speculation is mounting that Benitez will finally succumb to Madrid's advances. Benitez has apparently already turned down three approaches to swap the soccer uniforms of Liverpool for Real Madrid over the past few seasons but with both clubs faltering badly it looks as if all parties concerned would welcome such a move. Media reports in Spain also suggest that Real Madrid are lining up a big money move for Liverpool captain who has cut a dejected figure of late as Liverpool slump once again. If this weren't bad news enough for the Anfield faithful, Fernando Torres has come out with a thinly veiled threat to quit the club if there isn't a cash injection soon that will finance a squad overhaul. "The really important thing is that the club make a big effort and bring in important players, who will improve the quality of the squad," said Torres. 'We need four or five top-class players to compete, who will make us grit our teeth and do everything we can to try to keep our places. Without reinforcements next year we will once again be fighting to be fourth. I want to fight next year to win the Premier League, to win the Champions League or the Europa League, but for this there have to be signings.' When questioned about his future, Torres said: 'I have three more years on my contract. I owe Liverpool many things and I'm very happy here. The fans have treated me like one of their own, but I'm going to think about my future. The club deserve to get back to winning [trophies] but right now that is far off. The fans are worried about players leaving.' These quotes were released before a recent report that The Rhone Group, a global private equity firm with bases in London, Paris and New York have been in talks with the Reds for a number of weeks and have now put together a $165 million offer that would see them take a 40% stake in the club. A number of investors have been circling the club for some time and now that a firm bid is on the table other investors are likely to come forward and compete. According to club legend, Alan Hansen, new investment is crucial at this time if Liverpool is to avoid crisis "Whatever the outcome of the proposed investment in Liverpool, somebody has to come in and save them because it is clearly crunch time in terms of the club's history," said Hansen. "The mere fact that Fernando Torres chose to speak about the need for "four or five top-class" players to be signed by the club will be a worry for Liverpool supporters because, in a perfect world, he would have said nothing and simply got on with the job." "On the pitch, things are not looking great because it looks as though they are going to miss out on Champions League qualification." "To qualify, they are going to have to win 95 per cent of their remaining games this season and they don't look capable of doing that." "If they fail, that's when the problems could really start. I don't know about the intentions of Torres or Steven Gerrard, but if you are in the top 100 players in the world, you want to play in the Champions League because it is the only place to be." "If Liverpool are not in the Champions League, will they accept missing out as a one-off or fear it happening season after season? Should either of them decide to leave, it would leave an enormous hole that would be impossible to fill." "So this is the problem facing whoever comes in with new investment. It is a big ask of anybody to expect them to find the money for a new ground and a new team." "It has been 20 years since Liverpool won the league. If it goes another five years and the club slip into mediocrity, then you are not only asking for trouble, you are likely to get it." "That is why the next few months are so crucial. If the new investment arrives, then the club will have to either back manager Rafael Benítez to the hilt in the summer or he will have to go. At the moment, you would have to say that the outcome of that one is 50-50." The wearers of the most successful of all soccer uniforms in English soccer history have a chance to generate better headlines when they take on Portsmouth at Anfield later today.

Why UEFA Decided Some Euro 2012 Qualifying Fixtures

by Rob Atherton

When the draw was made for the Euro 2012 championships, there was great excitement amongst the fans. Their thoughts turned to the new destinations they would visit following their team in their quest to make the finals which will be hosted jointly by Poland and Ukraine.

However, travel plans can't be made until the dates of the qualifying matches were decided. In the first instance, it was left to the teams in the 9 groups to hold a meeting to try to agree fixtures. The countries are free to chose the fixture dates from a list of international dates between September 2010 and October 2011.

Within weeks of the Euro 2012 Qualifying draw being made, meetings were being held all round Europe and in five of the nine groups, fixtures were agreed which meant supporters could start making their travel plans. For the countries of the four remaining groups, the fixtures were decided by UEFA. Among the teams who didn't agree fixtures were both England and Republic of Ireland who enjoy huge travelling support. This meant the loyal supporters had to wait a little longer to make their travel plans.

The countries from the four unresolved groups headed to Tel Aviv to await their fate at the hands of UEFA. The procedure was pretty straight forward. UEFA have a standard fixture list with fixtures such as A v B on a specific dates. All that was left to do was to draw the teams from each group into a letter thus giving the set of fixtures for the remaining four Euro 2012 Qualifying groups. Supporters could start planning their trips at last.
