Manchester Council has dramatically abandoned plans to use big screens to screen next week's Manchester United Vs Chelsea Champions League final after Glasgow Rangers fans caused chaos in the city. An estimated 20,000 Glasgow Rangers fans were in the city to see their team play Zenit St Petersberg in the match at the City of Manchester Stadium, but the occasion soured when people ran riot in the city centre, attacking both police officers and civilians.
Richard Leese, leader of the city council leader, told reporters that Manchester would not be screening the vital game next Wednesday as "an appropriate response to what happened last night." He said that "any business or resident of the city centre" would agree with the council’s decision not to show the game.
Trouble started in the city when a big screen that was supposed to be showing the game to an estimated 20,000 fans in Manchester’s Piccadilly Gardens failed just fifteen minutes before kick off. All attempts to fix the screen failed, so the council laid on free transport for 11,000 fans to watch the game on a screen in the Velodrome. However, some fans refused to go to the alternative venue and violence erupted.
Violence was also present at the Stadium and one St Petersburg fan was stabbed in his seat before kick-off. There was more violence outside the City of Manchester Stadium after Rangers lost 2-0 in the match. In total, there were 52 assaults recorded in the city and fifteen police officers and a police dog were treated for their injuries. 42 football supporters – all thought to be Glasgow Rangers fans - were arrested after the violence.
Glasgow Rangers released a statement yesterday, which condemned the behaviour of their badly behaved fans. Martin Bain, the club's chief executive, said: "The club has had discussions with Greater Manchester Police and Manchester City Council in view of incidents in the city last night. The police and council praised the behaviour of the overwhelming majority of Rangers fans." However, he added "We are deeply disappointed that a small minority soured what was great carnival atmosphere and this is a view shared by our fans who travelled in unprecedented numbers to Manchester."
Uefa, the governing body of European football, is now investigating the violence. However, it is not yet known whether Glasgow Rangers can be punished for the bad behaviour of its supporters.
William Gaillard of Uefa said that Greater Manchester Police and the city as a whole had done a "fantastic" job in looking after the fans. He said: "I can’t believe that any other city would have done anything better. Of course we are very disappointed with the behaviour of a small minority especially after the city had done everything it could to accommodate everyone’s needs and were rewarded by injured policemen and hundreds of tons of rubbish."

Ronaldo-Will It Be Red Or White

Real Madrid have renewed thier long-standing interest in Cristiano Ronaldo in the light of his announcement that he has ambitions to play in Spain.This interest in the Portuguese winger was further reinforced by the club's president,Roman Calderon,who spoke publicly about his admiration of Ronaldo."Who would not want a player as Ronaldo in thier team" Calderon replied when asked if Ronaldo might join Madrid.He is one of the best players in the world.Franco Baldini,right-hand man to Madrid's sporting director,Predrag Mijatovic,and the man who negotiates all of the club's signings,recently met Jorge Mendes in London.Madrid sources has it that the meeting was to comfirm Cristiano Ronaldo as thier NO1 priority come next season.It is believed that Real is ready to offer 54 million pounds to secure Ronaldo.Real Madrid has even gone as far as meeting with Ronaldo's agent and agreeing a course of action that directors at the Santiago Bernabeu believe will end with the Portugal winger becoming thier latest galactico.Now, with Madrid ready to meet Manchester United's asking price for the winger-expected to be somewhere in the region of 80 million euros(54million pounds).It might just come down to Cristiano Ronaldo to decide where his future lies.Real is also ready to beat any contract offer made by Manchester United,matching Ronaldo's salary to that of the galacticos.6 million pounds(4million pounds) a year,after tax.Manchester United is also bent on keeping thier most priced player.They have already put down a contract offer of about 140,000 pounds a week.But it is still believed that Ronaldo might reject the contract offer in order to play for Madrid.Alex Ferguson will be comfortable with the knowledge that Ronaldo is happy in Manchester,even if the player does not speak openly about been attracted to the Spainish league.Nevertheless Calderon's remarks on wanting to sign Ronaldo will not go down well at Old Trafford,where Ferguson has been increasingly irritated by Madrid's habit of talking about thier transfer targets in the media.Cristiano Ronaldo has been voted footballer of the year-only the second player to win the award in successive seasons since its introduction 60years ago.Ronaldo,who has had a fantastic season,netted an outstanding 41 goals during the season,31 of which came in the premier league alone.So dear football-soccer fans,the question now is-Do you think Cristino Ronaldo looks better in a red or white jersey.Please make your views and comments known.

Improving your soccer players skills, or helping yourself to improve your soccer game is very rewarding. If you help your players, you get the feeling of satisfaction and you see it happen under your teaching. Improving your own game will give you that excellent feeling of conquering a new skill.
Practice is a great way to do that. And by using regulation goals, or portable soccer goals, you can improve your accuracy and talents. Here are some of the different types:

A golf enthusiast may certainly be interested in the profiles of famous golfers. When the topic is "golf", the name that probably crosses our minds before everyone else's is "Tiger Woods". There are other popular golfers too who have taken the world of golf by storm and have made a deep impact.
Today anyone who has a liking for golf is familiar with Tiger Woods. This American golfer was born in 1975 and is now the topmost professional golfer according to the official world golf rankings. Woods entered the world of golf at a very small age and by the time he was thirteen, he had already won the Junior Championships six times.
Being the youngest golfer to win the world Junior Amateur Championships, Woods received the honor of being the Amateur Golf World Player in 1992. He had started playing professionally in 1996. His achievement lies in the fact that at present he is a golfer who has won sixty-one PGA tours as well as twenty-two additional professional victories.
Popularly known as the "Golden Bear", Jack Nicklaus is regarded as one of the greatest golfers of all time. When you go through the profiles of famous golfers, it is obvious that you will be finding the name "Nicklaus". Born in Columbus in 1940, Nicklaus is considered to have made the game of golf as popular as it is today. This golfer had won his first Ohio State Junior title when he was just twelve. He went all professional in 1962 and in that year itself won the US Open.
This great master has to his credit a total of 18 major titles, 113 professional triumphs and 73 PGA tour victories. He is still considered to be among the greatest putters and the longest hitting golfers in the history of golf.
Arnold Palmer was the most famous among the rivals of Jack Nicklaus. His claim to fame lies in the fact that he has won about a hundred golfing events, four Vardon Trophies, four awards for being the PGA Tour Money Winner, two PGA Player of the Year awards and many other rewards.
There are other great golfers whose names will be evergreen in the pages of the profiles of famous golfers. Among these golfers, you are sure to find the likes of Ben Hogan, Bobby Jones, Gary Player, Seve Ballesteros, Harry Vardon and Nick Faldo.
If you are a woman golfer, you will be influenced by the golf career of the greatest female golfer of all times - Annika Sorenstam. Other women golfers who have earned the reputation of being great golfers are Kathy Whitworth, Mickey Wright, Nancy Lopez and Babe Didrikson Zaharias.
