2010 FIFA World Cup

by Justin Wong Qualifying for the 2010 International Tournament kicks-off this March The world's most watched sporting event, the FIFA World Cup of soccer, is only a year and a half away. Over 200 teams will begin qualifying matches for the final 32 spots beginning March 28, 2009. Matches take place across Europe so fans everywhere have a chance to be a part of the action! Held in South Africa, this will be the first time the international tournament will be hosted by a country in the Confederation of African Football, leaving the Oceania Football Confederation the only FIFA confederation yet to host. There have been many rumours circulating over whether or not the tournament would be moved from South Africa due to some FIFA executives expressing concerns with regard to the organization, planning and pace of the preparations, though FIFA representatives have been strongly denying it. Getting together with friends, watching alone or catching the old ball game with my dad are some of the best memories of my lif!. Who can resist a friendly wager with a friend who cheers for a rival team? And what is better than reading the paper the next day when your team wins? A few years ago when I had to move abroad for my studies, I started feeling the pain of no longer being able to watch the best games from my favourite football, basketball, hockey and baseball teams. This made living abroad such a drag for me. Sports are such a huge part of my life that it feels like someone ripped out a piece of my soul. The local cable company here wanted a ridiculous amount of money for the official sports package and then I had to watch the sports that THEY chose for me!
